How the price is reached
A fixed price tag on gold hides the making charge inside it. We would rather you saw all three numbers separately.
Weighed in front of you on a certified scale, before anything is said about money.
The 22K figure on the board that morning. The same number for every customer.
A percentage or a flat charge, told to you plainly before you commit.
A twenty gram chain, at a rate of ₹6,000 per gram, is ₹1,20,000 of gold. Add the making charge, add 3% GST, and that is the bill. Nothing further is added to it.
The shop
There is no showroom here. No security desk, no glass atrium. There is a counter on Thuthur Road, a scale, and whoever is behind it that day.
Most of our work is 22 karat, in the temple style the families around Elakurichi have always worn — a haram for a wedding, a thali chain to be blessed, jhumkas a girl will still be wearing in forty years. The goldsmiths who make it are people we know by name.
We tell you the weight before the price, and the making charge before you agree to anything. If you would rather carry the piece to another shop and have it weighed there first, do that. We would rather you came back in ten years than paid too much once.
Every gold piece carries its six digit HUID mark.
